The book is a collection of stories about the adventures of Mowgli, a boy who was raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. He meets many animals, such as Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther, Shere Khan the tiger, and Kaa the python, who teach him the laws of the jungle and help him survive. The book also includes other stories, such as Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the story of a brave mongoose who saves a family from a pair of cobras, and Toomai of the Elephants, the story of a young elephant handler who witnesses the dance of the elephants.
